The habit of Tobacco is major cause cause of of Cancer in worldwide. The world health organisation has observed anti tobacco day / world anti-tobacco day on 31 may every year. All 193 UN member states to raise awareness of harmful effect of tobacco use. Yearly ,celebration create the awareness about the dangers of using tobacco and claim their right to health and healthy living and to protect future generations.

History-

No tobacco day was created by the member states of WHO on 1987. They want to create awareness and draw global attention to the tobacco epidemic and the preventable death and also intended to draw attention to the widespread prevalence of tobacco and to negative health effects.

WHO launched a global compaign under the slogan “commit to quit” to celebrate the world No tobacco day on 2021. WHO comparison can help in their conditions that promote cessation

Significance amide covid-19 –

Dr.Tedros Adhanmon, WHO Director General said – “smokers have up to a 50% of higher higher risk of developing severe disease death from covid-19.Hence, quitting is best thing smokers can do to lower the risk from coronavirus and also the risk of developing cancer heart disease and respiratory illness”.

They also said that -” we urge all countries to play their roll by joining the WHO compaign and also by creating awareness about tobacco free environment and surrounding due to doing this we are able to create awareness in people by giving information support and they need to quit and quite for good health.”

Covid infection in smokers-

Smokers are likely to suffers from stroke heart diseases cancer diabetes. It is necessary to note that all these are important for comorbidities for developing several illness and adversely affecting the clinical outcome in covid affected patients .

Due to smoking , it’s increases weakness in immune system and increases risk of covid-19 transmission. Because we are all well known about that tobacco smoking contains toxic chemicals likes nicotine which affects badly on the lining of the airways of the lungs. Due to smoking covid patients are unable to fight against covid-19.

The act of smoking involves fingers and contaminated cigarettes coming in contact with lips and mouth and this increases the risk of transmission of virus from hand to mouth.

However , chewing tobacco products is related with spitting anywhere in the public places which also increases the risk of transmission of covid-19 through the saliva droplets.

smoking causes two types of effects that the long term and short term effects –

This causes due to substances like nicotine, carbon monoxide, tar which are present in tobacco.

Following tips will help you in in avoiding the smoking habit-

  • Try to avoid stressful situation during starting some weeks after you starts to stop the smoking habit .
  • Do exercise on daily basis for 10 to 15 minutes and also 5 minutes walk has been shown to reduce your carvings.

  • clean your room where you smoke, wash the clothes so that you cant get the smell of cigarette smoke which will remind you of smoking.
  • Change your diet-avoid the food items which makes cigaret test and the alcoholic beverages ,meat and eat the fruits ,vegetables , fresh fruit juice, cheese , etc
  • Change your routine or habit. change your routine that divert your mind from smoking. Spend more time with your children or family.
  • Make a plan that reminds you to avoid smoking and stick to it. If you falls many times but don’t give up keeping to avoid smoke.
